Consumer rights advocacy group “Choice” recently surveyed 770 members who had experienced back pain in the previous 12 months and sought treatment for pain. Physiotherapy cmae out as the most effective form of treatment for back pain with 79% of members reporting they were satisfied with the treatment they received.

This was ahead of Chiropractic, Osteopathy, Acupuncture and General Practitioner care. General Practitioners came out as the group who had the lowest satisfaction rating. To a Physiotherapist this is not surprising as a GP’s role is to provide medications, generic advice and referrals to specialists. They are not involved in hands on assessment (and treatment) regarding the causes of pain and then addressing the issues that each individual presents with.

Too often we see patients who have put up with pain for many months not knowing where to turn for treatment and hoping the pain may just go away if they rest. This customer survey should give people the confidence to know they are doing the right thing when they pick up the phone  and seek treatment from a Physiotherapist for their pain. Often the hardest thing is picking up the phone for the first time as you wonder if you are doing the right thing.

Our Physiotherapists are highly experienced in the treatment of low back pain.
