Many of you will have been aware of recent coverage looking at the relative benefits of Physiotherapy compared to surgery for back pain and for knee pain. Similar findings are shown in some shoulder injuries. Numerous studies now show that too frequently people end up having surgery with the misplaced assumption that changes seen on X-ray are the cause of the pain and therefore removing or modifying this structure will fix the pain.

Surgery can have its place in management of pain, but it is now recognised that high quality physiotherapy addressing the reasons for the pain combined with appropriate exercises frequently gives better short and long term results.

If you have pain in your back, knees or shoulders we can assess your problem and help you determine if Physiotherapy will help you and your problem or whether surgery is your best option.

At Burns Bay Physiotherapy we understand pain and movement. We use a systematic whole-body assessment to efficiently find and treat the cause of your pain as well as teach you how to manage yourself for the long term.
